A NIGHT AT THE CINEMA
Walton (arr. Muir Mathieson) - Henry V Suite
Doreen Carwithen Suffolk Suite
Hans Zimmer/Klaus Badelt - Pirates of the Caribbean Suite
John Williams - Jurassic Park Theme
Anne Dudley - Poldark Suite for Orchestra
Max Richter - On the Nature of Daylight
John Williams - Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone Suite for Orchestra
Conductor - Helen Thomas
Come and listen to ‘Hedwig’s theme’ and ‘Harry’s Wondrous World’ amongst the stunning music that Williams wrote for Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. Then make sure you are safely seated as we enter Jurassic Park. Zimmer’s music for the Pirates of the Caribbean films is a swashbuckling, orchestral masterpiece.
Experience an emotional contrast with Anne Dudley’s Cornish folk-inspired Poldark Suite and the Max Richter’s meditative On the Nature of Daylight which was recently used in the film Hamnet.
These contemporary film scores owe a great deal to trailblazers from an earlier era in British filmmaking and so we feature two of these ‘period’ film scores. William Walton’s Suite from Henry V portrays the pomp, intrigue and tragedy of the English Tudor court. Doreen Carwithen’s Suffolk Suite develops musical material originally written for the film East Anglian Holiday, a nostalgic travelogue produced by British Transport Films in 1954.
Feel free to come in costume!
